AUST KARTING LIGHTS UP IPSWICH FOR ROUND 1

Following the relaxation of border restrictions by the Queensland Government on Thursday, Karting Australia has confirmed the rescheduled date for Round One of the 2021 SP Tools Australian Kart Championship presented by Castrol EDGE.

The event will be hosted by the Ipswich Kart Club in Queensland on February 19/20.

As was the case for the originally scheduled date, the event will be contested as day/night meeting on Friday and Saturday.

Erebus Academy driver Bailey Sweeny is set to race on the biggest and best stage in Australian motorsport after the organizing body officially launched the Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 Series championship calendar for 2021.

The five-round series will run on the support card of the Australian Supercars Championship including the Bathurst 1000 in October.

This ensures immediate and national TV and media coverage for Sweeny and for his partners.

Erebus Academy driver Bailey Sweeny has dominated the Watts Communications Canberra Cup karting titles at the Circuit Mark Webber in the Senior Performance Class, coming away with Heat wins, the Pre-final win and the overall championship Final win.

Bailey said after the race, ‘it was a solid weekend and it’s been a long and at times frustrating year but its great to get the win at the Mark Webber circuit and to finish the year on a high note’.

Sweeny added, ‘I simply cannot wait for 2021 ..it is going to be a full on year of racing,

It was a highlight to complete my first race at Bathurst this year and we have some very exciting news coming in early 21,”

“I am really looking forward to sharing that news with all of our partners and supporters as soon as I am able to, but safe to say, we are set for a bumper year next year’,

Erebus Academy driver Bailey Sweeny has taken to the NSW circuit of Wakefield, in the Hyundai Excel Series X3 Race series, producing a stunning second place in the Enduro Race on Sunday, after a top 3 qualifying result.

17 years old Sweeny qualified third from the 29 car field, being just zero point six of a second off the pole time. (1.14:9) but managed to secure the second place podium position during the longer race.

Bailey added later’ It was a great to be back out on track in an interrupted year, mixing it with a one make series where it all comes down to the driver, and I’d like to extend a special thanks to the team at Crossland Motorsport who gave me a great car too’.

Erebus Motorsport Academy driver Bailey Sweeny has claimed his maiden Australian titles race win at Round Two of the 2020 SP Tools Australian Kart Championship presented by Castrol EDGE in Newcastle.

17 year old Sweeny, from Batemans Bay in NSW, broke through for his first national class win in the KA3 Senior Class, taking victory in Heat 1.

Success bred success with Sweeny immediately following that up with another victory - his second in the Australian titles - with a solid win in Heat 2.

Erebus Academy driver Bailey Sweeny has shown strong determination during Race 2 of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 Series at Mount Panorama, Bathurst.

In a 26 car, tightly packed field, 17 year old Sweeny was shuffled during a hectic opening lap and after putting his head down, managed to claw some positions back in the one make series.

In only his second race at the mountain and in aiming to move up in places, Sweeny attempted a courageous maneuver at the aptly named ‘Hell Corner’, but caught a left rear swipe from fellow competitor which produced a spin.

The Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 Series at Mount Panorama, Bathurst will return on Saturday for Race 3 at 15:20 local time/AEDT.

Erebus Academy driver Bailey Sweeny has come through his first ever race of the 2020 Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 series at Mount Panorama, Bathurst to claim 15th in a 26 car field.

Making his debut in the series and at Bathurst, the notorious mountain layout produced several race incidents and saw the safety car employed when fellow competitor Jake Lougher ground to a halt just after The Chase.

Race 2 begins tomorrow at 12.50pm local time with the third race coming shortly after at 3.20pm.

Erebus Motorsport Academy driver Bailey Sweeny has hit the track and finished a smooth and successful first day of practice at Mount Panorama, during the 2020 Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 series round, as part of the Bathurst 1000.

Sweeny said, ‘today was simply about getting to know the circuit, the lines, the corners..and keeping everything clean. We will look to push as the weekend progresses and today is about learning as much as I can’.

Its an awesome circuit and I’m learning heaps so I cant wait to get back out again tomorrow and see what we can do’.

Erebus Motorsport Academy driver Bailey Sweeny has had the perfect lead up to his 2020 Bathurst Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 championship round at Mount Panorama, by taking out the Senior Performance Light ACT State Tittles, at the Mark Webber Kart circuit in Canberra.

In dominating the weekend, Bailey claimed the fastest in qualifying before coming home first in all heat races and the final, making it a clean sweep for the weekend.

The schedule has been set for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, with four support categories to join Supercars as part of the on-track action.

Bailey will make his debut at Australia’s most iconic race track on October 15, driving the ALL4 Mechanical Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 car.

The 1000km main event will get underway from 11:30am local time on October 18 – the final day of the 2020 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
