Erebus Academy driver Bailey Sweeny has shown strong determination during Race 2 of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 Series at Mount Panorama, Bathurst.
In a 26 car, tightly packed field, 17 year old Sweeny was shuffled during a hectic opening lap and after putting his head down, managed to claw some positions back in the one make series.
In only his second race at the mountain and in aiming to move up in places, Sweeny attempted a courageous maneuver at the aptly named ‘Hell Corner’, but caught a left rear swipe from fellow competitor which produced a spin.
Sweeny was unhurt and continued on to finish the race, with the knock shuffling him to 19th.
Bailey will be back this afternoon, ready to tackle the most demanding circuit in Australia.
The Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 Series at Mount Panorama, Bathurst will return on Saturday for Race 3 at 15:20 local time/AEDT.
