Erebus Motorsport Academy driver Bailey Sweeny has hit the track and finished a smooth and successful first day of practice at Mount Panorama, during the 2020 Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 series round, as part of the Bathurst 1000.
Making his debut at the daunting 6.2km circuit, 17 year old Sweeny lapped the mountain in a time of 2:43.09 in the tightly bunched and highly competitive field.
Racing against some of the most experienced and highly fancied racers in Australian motorsport, including Porsche driver Cameron Hill and Australian Rally champion Harry Bates, Sweeny said, ‘today was simply about getting to know the circuit, the lines, the corners..and keeping everything clean. We will look to push as the weekend progresses and today is about learning as much as I can’.
Its an awesome circuit and I’m learning heaps so I cant wait to get back out again tomorrow and see what we can do’.
The TGRA86 Series continues tomorrow with Qualifying and Race 1 set for 11.00am and 2.45pm respectively.
