20 year old HMO Customer Racing Hyundai TCR driver Bailey Sweeny, tonight sits on the brink of claiming the 2023 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia championship title.
Sweeny holds a 15 point lead over fellow Hyundai stablemate Josh Buchan with 2 races remaining in the season, held tomorrow, at Australia's most infamous track, Mount Panorama, Bathurst. GRM driver Aaron Cameron sits in third.
This weekend sees the Australian championship form part of the Khumo World TCR Championships and Sweeny will go up against the best TCR drivers in the world.
It's been a meteoric rise for the young gun from Batemans Bay in NSW.
Sweeny began in karts before progressing up to the highly competitive Toyota 86 Series, and eventually to the TCR Championship.
The title would be his first Australian TCR title and would have him sit amongst highly experienced and household name drivers in Australia motorsport, such as current 888 Supercars driver Will Brown and Shell V Power Racing Supercars driver Tony D’Alberto as previous champions.
The combined Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series and Kumho TCR World Tour field return to the track for Race Two at 12:50pm AEST and the the final race at 4.10pm AEST.
